LCS: therapy

At LCS we work in partnership with Clinical Psychology Associates (CPA), a professional organisation that provides us with our own dedicated therapist, who visits LCS homes on a regular basis (weekly) and has involvement with each young person (fortnightly) and their care plan at LCS.

Our therapy

CPA logoCPA’s clinical services are grounded entirely in evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and functional analysis, and are fully consistent with existing legislative frameworks, national clinical guidelines and occupational standards, such as those established by the Department of Health, NICE, and Ofsted.

All of the services are delivered by a team of specialist Clinical or Counselling Psychologists. They receive regular clinical supervision and undertake continued professional development, and their practice is regulated by the British Psychological Society.

CPA helps staff to address their perceptions of difficult behaviours, develop confidence, improve awareness and promote consistency. The approach focuses not only on behavioural change but also on successful behavioural management.

ON ADMISSION

The registered manager will contact their CPA clinician to inform of a new referral and request overview and signing of the initial Risk Assessment and Behaviour Management Plan.

Relevant background documents (e.g. chronology, previous assessments) should also be sent

WEEKS 1-6

The clinician will begin an initial assessment, involving meeting the young person and consultation with the manager and staff.

At week 6, the clinician will prepare a Clinical Introduction Letter for the social worker to inform that an assessment has begun

WEEKS 7-12

The clinician will continue the initial Psychological Assessment.

At week 12, the clinician will prepare a fuller report for the social worker and registered manager

WEEK 14

The clinician, manager and staff will meet to complete a Therapeutic Treatment Plan, agreeing a target area to focus on, and short, medium and long-term interventions.

The plan will be written up by the clinician and used as a focus in subsequent consultation visits

WEEK 16 onwards:

The clinician will visit each home twice per month (approximately once per fortnight) to carry out direct work with young people (where appropriate) and consultation sessions with staff members and manager

The Therapeutic Treatment Plan will be reviewed every 6 weeks in line with preparation progress reports and other reviews of documentation
